Gloeotrichia density scale
Comments & Observations:

Another beautiful day on the lake for a water test although the wind was more variable and kept swinging the boat around. The Secchi disc reading, although not as high as last month, was still right around 20 feet and better than last year and more in line with what we expect this time of year. Gloeotrichia has increased to between levels 1 and 2 on the scale. Dissolved Oxygen levels have become hypoxic (dangerously low in oxygen) below the thermocline. As you can see in the profile chart there is a sharp drop off from close to 8 mg/l to around 2 mg/l. Fish and other aerobic animals cannot survive in these oxygen conditions and will either migrate to the higher, warmer waters or die. Although the depletion is not quite as bad as last year it is still at dangerous levels.
