Memories
Kirk Canton Silvester: My parents vacationed at Pinewood Camps (Lakefield) in the mid 50s and it is the source of my middle name. Unfortunatly, the Camps were in the twilight of their existance by the time I first visited in 1966. I was able to spend a few memorable times there in the 70s. Then, in 1981 I stopped at the Lakefield lodge to see about booking a future stay and was crushed to see that the magnificent pines had been logged, and the camp was thoroughly overgrown. Another stop in 2001 found the lodge and cabins gone. Still, though, I have some fond memories, and a name, of a wonderful place. The above watercolor was painted by my wife Linda from a photo of the Lakefield Lodge, unfortunately she never had the opportinity to visit the Camp in its glory days.
